Connecting With A Higher Source
As a young girl, Norma Simon realised she had a special gift and a connection with God. As the years went by she learned how to embrace this gift instead of fearing it. By combining her profound understanding of the spiritual world and her compassion for fellow human beings, Norma sees her vocation as a chance to help others on their journey to acceptance and understanding.
When did you become aware of receiving messages?
Norma: From about the age of five, I was very aware of wanting to be as close to God as I could get and loved sitting in a tree feeling like I was closer. I was aware of everyone’s energy but could only feel it as being nice or not nice. At seventeen, I was more open to connecting with Source, God, whoever that powerful Energy is. I became aware hearing messages, not in the sense of a voice in my ear but more as being in my consciousness.
I have heard you consult your Spiritual Team before or during readings and meditations. Can you elaborate on this?
Norma: I am not able to receive visions and messages without praying and meditating daily. I connect with Universal Energy each time and ask that my Spiritual Guides teach me and support me in passing on the information from Light to be of service to God, that I do my job to the best of my ability in Truth.
How would you describe God in terms of spirituality?
Norma: I have always felt that man has created Religion and yet we all come from the same Source, be that God, Jesus, Allah, Buddha or Archangels. I therefore take and learn whatever resonates for me from all religions to use my Gift to the best of my ability. I realize how similar our religious beliefs and practices are and try and embrace all and if we focused on our connectedness and not our differences, it would create a very different and loving world.
“…I believe that the supernatural is quite normal to children especially and it is only our fear as we disconnect from God / Source / Universe that we create a perceived reality based on fear…” – Norma Simon, Psychic Medium.
People often view readings as ‘telling the future’, however from what I understand it also serves more of an understanding of self?
Norma: I do not view my work as telling the future but more of Spiritual Counseling. We all have free will and choice and I can guide an individual in a direction but ultimately cannot control an outcome.
Apart from Hollywood horror movies engineered to frighten us, why do you think are people so afraid of anything supernatural – especially in the dark?
Norma: I believe that the supernatural is quite normal to children especially and it is only our fear as we disconnect from God / Source / Universe that we create a perceived reality based on fear. Connecting to Souls that have passed is so comforting for the individual that seeks closure and often just need the reassurance that a loved one is at peace. Souls often just need to be reminded to go back to God/Source/Love if they are disturbing an individual, but do not want to harm us in any way.
Letting Go Of Old Habits
On a whim I decided to make Supernatural our Special Feature for July. Once I have made my decision, I stick with it whether I know what I am going to write about or not. With this in mind I applied myself to the internet in search of things both strange and spooky going on in South Africa. As luck would have it, while these thoughts were running through my head, I was watching an episode of Carte Blanche featuring a psychic in search of murder victims.
Aha, I thought to myself, here is something I never considered. While the medium on television was unsuccessfully trying to find the bodies, I further delved into Google in search of other psychics I could feature in the magazine. There is a surprising high number of psychics in South Africa, I discovered. On the other hand, not many of them seem – for the lack of a better word – trustworthy. Just before disappointed took hold, I stumbled upon the website of Norma Simon, a clairvoyant living in Cape Town.

Something about Norma seemed a little more authentic and I found myself scouring through the many sections of her website. Always someone to plunge ahead, I contacted her immediately to set up an interview. Norma very graciously agreed and even offered a free telephonic session to help me better understand what exactly it is that she does.
Now, ask my friends, especially the ones who have known me since nineteen-voetsek, I am open-mindedness come to life. That being said, I am also the last person to believe in something that others may swear is true. To be honest, I am unsure of what my expectation were on that morning of the free telephonic session. We had agreed on a specified time and I tried my best to clear my mind and be receptive to the experience.
What Norma does is listen. After hearing my voice and talking for a couple of minutes, she shared with me the images she received during our conversation. It was a vision of me dragging and pulling boxes towards an open door but unable or unwilling to leave the old boxes with old belongings behind. In the great scheme of things, it could mean many things to many people but to me, it definitely struck a chord. On the verge of starting something new, I am secretly scared to death of making the same old mistakes because of the same old habits I have carried with me for years.
“…if I use a Tony Robbins quote found on Facebook or a message from Norma Simon over the telephone to improve my life, shouldn’t the most important thing be that I am, in fact, improving my life?…” – Marelise Jacobs
Here is where Norma’s second part of the session started. She helps one to understand, not necessarily her vision, but one’s own interpretation of it. The term used by many is spiritual counselling, and whether or not you put any stock into it, it does give a refreshing view into what you really think about what is going on in your life and in the lives of those around you.
In the couple of weeks since the session with Norma, I have often found myself thinking about our conversation. It has made me very aware of my choices and more importantly, my habits. And that got me thinking. People spend hours on social media reading quote-of-the-day memes or tit-bits of advice to make them change their ways because somehow they know they should be doing things differently. These very same people will criticize and demonise the fact that you have spoken to a clairvoyant psychic in search of meaning.
My argument is, if I use a Tony Robbins quote found on Facebook or a message from Norma Simon over the telephone to improve my life, shouldn’t the most important thing be that I am, in fact, improving my life?
Being the product of a very diplomatic household, I will not say yay or nay on the subject of psychic phenomena, because I don’t know if Norma really saw those images or if it was just a lucky stab in the dark. What I am here to tell you, is that because of that conversation I have changed my ways. And for that I am grateful.
